Akharkaari

Gurbani Akharkari is a deeply revered practice among Sikhs, involving the handwritten transcription of Gurbani, the sacred scriptures of Sikhism. This traditional method utilizes a qalm (pen), siaahi (ink), handmade paper, and a davat (ink pot) to create beautiful and spiritually significant copies of the Pothis, Granths or individual shabads (hymns). The practice of Akharkari dates back to the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and has been carried forward by generations of Sikhs. It is considered a sacred and meditative process, offering a profound connection to the divine. By writing Gurbani with their own hands, Sikhs feel a sense of reverence and devotion, immersing themselves in the words and spirit of the scriptures.

We were brought up in a household with a passion for music and where the love and appreciation for Gurbani Keertan was inculcated in us from a very young age. In this era where most of us have drifted away from our roots and cultural heritage, Gurbani Keertan was something that helped keep us tethered to not only our culture but also to the almighty Akal Purakh. During the pandemic 2020 we were disheartened to see that most of the regular ongoing classes for gurmat sangeet at the gurudwaras closed down with people having no other alternatives. This gave us the drive to do something about this and that is how Livtaar was born.

At Livtaar we believe that the opportunity to learn Keertan is for everyone irrespective of financial status. Hence feel free to reach out to us if you need any fee waiver with a genuine reason.

Wishing you all the best as you start your musical journey with us…
